Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana has called on his Machakos counterpart Alfred Mutua to concentrate on developing Machakos.
At a press briefing in his office on Friday night, Kibwana urged Mutua to first address issues of his unpaid contractors and bring real development to his people before reaching out to other counties.
He challenged Mutua to show the budget his government has allocated for developing Makueni and Kitui counties.
He said for Mutua to tour other counties promising to develop them is disrespectful to the governors and the counties’ residents.
“It is just like President Uhuru Kenyatta waking up one day to go to Uganda and without the knowledge of President Yoweri Museveni, starts saying that his government will initiate some development projects in that country,” he said.
Kibwana said any budget that the Machakos government has set aside for development projects in Makueni and Kitui counties should be given to the governors of these counties to implement.
“Just like the donor countries do to Kenya and other nations, we expect that if there is any budget that the Machakos county government has for us in Makueni and Kitui, let it be given to us as the governors of these counties so that we can implement,” said Kibwana.
He said it was a pity that the people of Machakos were yearning for real development projects yet their governor was busy touring other counties giving empty promises.
Kibwana said he did not understand why Mutua would occupy himself with touring the three counties if his intention is to defend his Machakos governorship in 2017.
