The Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet has said reports that some of his police officers within the police service are radicalized are baseless and unfounded.

Speaking in Kitui town on Thursday where he had met police bosses from the county, the IG rubbished the claims terming them as media fabrications.

Boinnet said the recent incidents of officers turning guns to their colleagues were isolated cases and not terror related.

He however says the service is determined to pursue and punish the few who might be working for the enemy.

Joseph Boinnet had earlier said the police are on high alert following realization that proscribed criminal groups such as Mungiki and Sungu Sungu are being resuscitated ahead of 2017 general election.

Noting that Al shabaab threat is still alive and that the militants are targeting security installations.

Boinnet who was on his second day tour in lower eastern called upon all the police officers to embrace change in the service.

His sentiments come barely a month after a police officer killed six of his colleagues in Kapenguria after attacking Kapenguria Police Station.
