Kitui Governor Julius Malombe commissions the construction of the 500,000 cubic metres water reservoir

For a long time Kitui contractors and suppliers have decried nepotism and selective awarding of tenders and jobs by the Kitui County Government with many alluding to the fact that the governor has been issuing contracts and jobs to his cronies and affiliates.

Following our in-depth investigation it was revealed that for any contractor to do any meaningful contract/tender with the County Government one must be well connected to the top officials and the top county boss.

When I say meaningful tenders, I don’t mean meagre contracts like constructing ECDE classes, grading of feeder roads or such. Meaningful tender according to the cartel are any tenders worth more than 5 million.

One procurement officer who sought anonymity said “Huwezi pewa kazi if you are not in the system”. But what does ‘system’ in this context mean? Your guess is as good as mine.

Nevertheless Governor Malombe might be a clean man but the people surrounding him are doing him a lot of injustice.
