Former Standard Group editor and Kitui senatorial aspirant Enoch Wambua Kiio yesterday assured the people of Kitui County of peaceful campaigns in the countdown to the August 8th polls.
Addressing the media at Kefri after submitting his IEBC nomination papers for due clearance even as the official campaign period kicked off, Mr Kiio called on his supporters to embrace peace and tolerance before, during and after the elections and urged his opponents besides other aspirants to follow suit.
“Let’s bear in mind that, though intensive and battle-like, campaigns and elections are short-term activities that should not serve to divide us. We must therefore ensure the exercise is as calm and democratic as it can be,” he advised.
While exuding confidence of a landslide win, he promised, once elected, to push for the splitting of the expansive Kitui County into two smaller counties for ease of administration so as to spur speedy development.
He said the larger Kitui and Mwingi regions should be made independent devolved units given their extensive geographical areas and large populations.
The seat, currently held by David Musila, has also attracted Elijah Muimi Kilonzi (CCU), dorcas Mwende (Jubilee), Stephen Kilonzo Mutua (Maendeleo Chap Chap) and Paul Mutisya (Independent).
