Kitui Central Maendeleo Chap Chap’s MP aspirant Katunga Mbuvi has vowed to table a bill seeking State’s social welfare for widows in Kenya once elected into Parliament in the impending elections.

Addressing his supporters at Kwa Ukungu, Kihara and Ngiini areas, the renowned attorney said widows also deserve to get financial support from the government as it is the case for senior citizens.

“Most of these women are poor and have no reliable sources of livelihood yet they have to fend for their young families at these times of economic difficulties,” he noted.

Katunga regretted that, in some instances especially where the extended families neglect the bereaved women, widows are forced to engage in prostitution to feed their children.

“I will take it upon myself to sponsor a bill requiring the government of the day to pay out monthly stipends for widows as a way of uplifting their livelihoods besides restoring dignity.

“I am not seeking this seat for the sake of privileges that come with it but to primarily help the good people of Kitui Central as well as other Kenyans,” he added.

He said it is worrying how the current and previous houses have turned a blind eye to the woes of women who lose their husbands especially at tender ages but expressed optimism that will soon be a thing of the past.

In addition the, parliamentary hopeful promised to table another bill seeking restructuring of the CDF kitty policies to factor in construction of churches.

“The Constituency Development Fund currently permeates funding for schools, hospitals and roads but church construction should not be left out as churches are part of crucial community amenities,” he pointed out.

Katunga, who as hit the ground campaigning as the electioneering period enters home stretch, has received positive reception from the electorate who have vowed to vote him as their next legislator.
