Kitui Governor-elect Charity Ngilu has told the team planning her inauguration to redirect the Sh6 million budget towards water provision for Kitui residents.
Meeting the Kitui County Commissioner Boaz Cherutich in her office for the first time since her election, Ngilu said it was unimaginable to use the chunk of money on a one-day event while thousands of residents grappled with water scarcity.
“All we need on that day is a Bible and venue and it certainly cannot cost Sh6 million. Let us be sensitive to the poor in all our actions,” she said.
Her swearing in has been scheduled for Tuesday August 22, 2017 at Muslim Secondary School Grounds.
