Kitui County residents on Monday, November 27 endorsed a cabinet’s decision to establish the Kitui County Emergency Fund (KICEF).
This ensued at a time when the county leadership shifted focus towards responding sensibly to the constant emergency concerns affecting the people.
The emergency fund is among the top decisions upheld by the cabinet since the Governor took over office. The County leadership invited members of the public for the public participation forums at the sub-county headquarters in a bid to ensure inclusivity and contribution as the county gears towards realizing robust development milestones.
Residents turned up in eight sub county headquarters for public participation to debate aspects of the bill establishing the key fund ahead of the assembly consideration.
Addressing the participants attending the meeting at the Multi-purpose Hall in Kitui town, the County Executive Member in charge of the treasury Mary Nguli applauded Kitui people for welcoming the bill.
Also present in the event, Finance officer John Kimwele said that many disasters that befell residents in the county lacked a kitty and that the endorsement of the bill will be a notable relief.
The bill awaits debate and enactment in the county assembly for apt implementation.
