The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, IEBC chairperson Wafula Chebukati on Friday announced that Kitui West constituency by-elections will be held on March 26, 2018.
Speaking during a press release in Nairobi, Chebukati asked all parties to submit names of the contestants in party nominations on or before January 10 adding that the commission will publish the names of the the candidates 7 days upon receiving the names.
“Each political party must finalise its primaries and resolve intraparty disputes on or before January 10….IEBC shall publish the names and symbols of the independent candidates at least 14 days before the nomination or before January 12,” he said.
The commission further reiterated the announced through an official notice on its Website which read:
“Following the declaration of vacancy in the office of the member of the national assembly for the member of National Assembly for Kitui West via a letter from a speaker Gazette notice 12711 volume CXIX-no 193 dated December 27, there shall be a by-election for the Member of National Assembly for Kitui West constituency on 26th March 2018,”
The Kitui West seat was left vacant when the late lawmaker Francis Nyenze, who ruled as the Minority Leader in the 11th Parliament, died on December 6 at The Nairobi Hospital after a long battle with Colon Cancer.
