Opposition Members of the county Assembly in Nairobi county are now calling on president Uhuru Kenyatta to come clear on the matters of school fees this first term as schools reopen.
Led by the Makongeni MCA who also doubles as the minority chief whip Peter Imwatok, the county lawmakers have threatened that come next week, they will mobilise all parents with school kids to take all their children to schools and demand admission for free. Imwatok further said that failure to honour the pledge, the MCAs will sue the government for lying to Kenyans.
” Since the opening of schools, I have received delegations after delegations, messages after messages. It was a promise made to all Kenyans and parents knew that come January, they will not pay school fees for their children.” Imwatok said.
The minority chief whip further noted that the directive by acting Cabinet secretaty for Education, Science and Technology, Fred Matiang’i that some schools might pay 40,000 and some 53,000 is contrary to the promise pledged by the ruling government.
“That’s why I am calling upon our mothers to take their kids to school for free, failure to accommodate these children in school, I will take the government to court.” Imwatok promised.
