January 14, 2018: Kitui county Governor Charity Kaluki Ngilu has announced that she will be flagging off the grading of 1,200 kilometres of local roads from today,  Monday January 15th, 2018.

Speaking during Kitui county  Governor’s Press release, the Lands, Infrastructure and Urban Development Minister, Engineer Jacob Kakundi, said that the program will begin at 10am at the Kitui Stadium on the said date.

The program which involves 20 county road grading equipments including graders, caterpillars and Backhoe Loaders, has been worked out consultatively between Members of the Kitui County Assembly, ministry engineers and Ward Administrators.

Engineer Kakundi said the grading begins immediately after flag off and ends in May.

We have made a deliberate decision to use county resources as a cost saving measure. This effort will cost us Sh. 10 million instead of using close to Sh. 50m, had we outsourced this service.” Said the minister.

Engineer Kakundi further noted that all the 40 Wards will have their roads graded at the end of the programme, adding that it is part of the county annual roads work plans.
