The race to replace fallen Kitui West Member of parliament Francis Nyenze has attracted a number of individuals but as at Yesterday, January 24, only four candidates had been cleared by the Independent Elections and Boundaries Commission.
Former aspirant Robert Mutiso Leli of Narc Kenya who had sought the same seat in the August 8th polls was the first to be cleared by the constituency Returning Officer James Mbai just before Elijah Muimi Kilonzi of CCU made the bar.
Mr Lelli decamped from Ford Kenya citing attempts to intimidate him out of the race when the party denied him a ticket to view in the by-election.
The two join wife to former MP Francis Nyenze, Mrs Edith Vethi Nyenze of Wiper party who presented her nominations papers around noon escorted by her party leader and Nasa co principal Kalonzo Musyoka, alongside other leaders from the region drumming support for her.
Dennis Muli Mulwa who is vying as an independent candidate came in last escorted by a large supporters.
The candidates said their campaigns should be a test of intellectual capacity that can be relied to turn around the constituency fortunes rather than empty rhetoric and political mudslinging.
Mr Musyoka and the Wiper MPs addressed two campaign rallies at Matinyani and Kabati where they introduced Mrs Nyenze as their party nominee and urged voters to elect her on March 26th.
The returning officer affirmed that more candidates would be joining the race be end of today January 25.
