Kitui south MP Rachael Kaki has on Friday January 26, met with over 300 kitui south People Affected by Projects (PAP) who were affected by construction of the Kitui kibwezi road.
Speaking during the meeting, the MP who was accompanied by Kitui County commissioner, noted that she was happy that the issues had been addressed by her office in conjunction with the National Lands Commission and the company constructing the road, Synohydro.
“There were few misunderstandings between the community and the National Lands Commission because the people did not understand when they were to be compensated. I think this is because there was a lot of political goodwill and a serious push for the intimidation of these road. We are happy that today these matters have been discussed.” the lawmaker said.
Also present during the debrief were representatives from the Lands commission, representatives from NEMA, the synohydro contractors and Kitui South MCAs.
“Regarding how much people will be compensated, it has been agreed that it will be done through agreement between the community and the National Lands Commission and they are going to do it with consideration to the market rates. ” Hon. Kaki added.
Hon Kaki also asked the government and the contractors to make formal arrangements with the residents on some of the issues occurring during the project ranging from compensation, health, economic , social and environmental and address them accordingly.
