Governor Charity Ngilu launched flagged off a fumigation exercise in Endau Malalani ward on Thursday, February 1 following an outcry from the residents of the area that bedbugs had become a menace to them.
The ten-day exercise will be conducted to completion by a team of 25 residents from the villages, and the whole exercise will be under the supervision of public health officers from the ministry of Health and Sanitation,Chiefs and assistant Chiefs from the Ward.
Speaking in the ward during the presentation of the pesticides worth Ksh 2.5 Million, Governor Ngilu noted that her administration would not sit back and bask in such outcries from her people.
Each village will have five fumigators alongside two public health officers, who have been tasked with making Endau Malalani a bedbug free Ward. Public Health facilities will be the first to be fumigated, then followed by slightly over 3,300 homesteads in the region.
Also present during the flagging off of the exercises were CEC Health and Sanitation Rosaita Ngina, Majority leader of Kitui County Assembly Peter Mwikya Kilonzo and area MCA Grace Mwikali, among other leaders.
