Mwingi, 20th Feb 2018: Long ques have been witnessed in births and deaths certificate registration office in Mwingi town,Kitui county following a directive by the ministry of Education that every school going child must have a birth certificate.

Most parents from Mwingi East, Central and West sub counties are rushing the last minute to at least send their children back to school after they were send home due to lack of birth certificates.

The number of parents looking for these certificates is increasing minute by minute today being the last date issued by KNEC whereas the office has no single certificate as at now.

According to Wycliffe Nyandoma, the civil registrar, the office has issued thousands of copies and there are a lot pending too because of the shortage.

We have issued all the certificates we had and are waiting for the copies from  government printers. We are not sure how long it will take” said Nyamdoma

Normally, registering and acquiring the copy only takes 30 minutes but now parents are urged to wait till April to collect them due to the insufficiency.

I call upon parents to be applying for them immediately after they deliver in order to avoid such crises and last minute frustrations“, Nyandoma added

Residents have also been asked to be patient as the office waits for the certificates to be delivered from government printers.
