Kitui County Governor has called out to residents of ukambani region to take caution wherever they are, this rainy season.
In an address to Kitui, Machakos and Makueni Counties, Mrs. Ngilu
Urged the residents of these counties to exercise extra caution especially those in flooding areas, because of the heavy rainfall being experienced in many parts of the country,Ukambani not excluded.
The Governor asked parents and guardians to accompany school going children and make sure that they cross rivers safely, since the children can’t wisely assess the risk posed by moving water.
She also urged parents not to allow their children go swimming in rivers and dams. She further warned the adults against crossing swollen rivers in their daily chores, urging them to always wait for the waters to reduce so they can safely cross without putting their lives into risk.
Governor Ngilu also called upon PSV and private drivers who operate in the region to be extra careful and not drive into rivers with overflowing water. She further urged the residents of Ukambani region to take advantage of the rain and plant many trees.
Governor Ngilu’s call comes after several deaths were reported resulting from floods in many parts of the country, the latest incident happening in her county where 5 people drowned in Enziu river.
