Kitui County Communications Director Mr. Munyasya Musya is under police hunt after being alleged with massive spreading of propaganda through various social media platforms aimed at defaming the incumbent Governor Charity Ngilu.

It has been reported that the Chief County Officer was caught unaware in an hotel within Kitui Town by a group of youths who suspected that the officer was at his usual duty of drafting the online propaganda aimed at painting a negative image to Ngilu’s administration.

Munyasya was accompanied by Andrew Munyoki,a Junior officer of the county who the police officers in accompaniment by the youths managed to arrest. The officer is held in custody by the police.

A month ago,he had been sent home on a compulsory leave by the administration of Kitui County. The police officers seized his phone and a laptop for further scrutinisation of the alleged information by the DCI officers.

We are waiting for him and he hasn’t turned up as requested. We want to establish who ‘Tharaka’ is.We already have his colleague in custody who is helping our cybercrime police department with investigations,” Steven Birgen,Kitui Central DCI boss told the journalists.

In addition to that, the DCI officer urged the County communications Director under police hunt to present himself to the DCI offices if he has no connection with the alleged false information mostly shared via WhatsApp groups bearing the name ‘Tharaka’.The officer added that the two should be presented to court to answer about their remarks aimed at fueling hate speech .

Musya joined Kitui county administration back in 2014 as the head of Governor’s Communications Unit during the reign of the former Governor Dr. Julius Makau Malombe.

Kitui Assembly Majority Leader Hon. Peter Kilonzo has urged the criminal investigation officers to do their work fairly and honestly before coming up with the final conclusion over the matter. His words were echoed by his Kanziko Assembly Ward MCA James Munuve.
