A middle-aged woman was on Wednesday conned KES 200k in Mwingi town.

Confirming the incident Mwingi central police boss Mr Nyamu called upon residents of Mwingi town to be more careful when handling strangers; this is after three suspected cons were arrested yesterday after defrauding a woman ksh. 200,000 she had withdrawn from a nearby bank.

The suspects identified as James Muigai, Susan Mukoryo and Judy Ndinda have been using a Toyota corolla KBP 813U to move from town to town, and to escape after defrauding residents.

Mwingi town is said to have been raided by a group of cons, who day in day out have continued to defraud residents thousands of cash.

According to Dorcas Mwaniki the woman from Kyuso who was robbed her money last week on wednesday, she had just received a loan from Kenya Women Finance Trust bank with an intent to purchase a motorcycle. Hardly had she stepped out of the door, when she was approached by a lady offering to buy her tea in a nearby hotel.

“Just as I was coming out of the bank,I was approached by a woman who offered to buy me tea in a nearby hotel, because it was during broad day light I never minded but suddenly the plans changed and they drugged me into their car after which they robbed me all my cash,” narrated Dorcas.

After she resisted to move ,the woman was drugged and put inside a car where she was robbed all her money and left for the dead. She was later rushed to Mwingi level IV hospital by a Good Samaritan.

“I don’t know what they did to me, all I know is that I regained my consciousness at Mwingi level IV hospital where I had been rushed by a Good Samaritan,” added Doracs

Confirming the incidence, Mwingi central OCPD John Nyamu said that the two conmen and a woman were arrested yesterday after they returned to town to continue with their fraud game which has seen many residents lose a lot of money in unclear circumstances.

After noticing those who had robbed her, the lady come running to our police station and reported the matter. We send police officers who cornered the three and arrested them. Investigations are still underway to ascertain the truth of the matter,” Said the police boss.

Mr Nyamu called upon any resident of Mwingi who might have been robbed money in similar circumstances to report at Mwingi police station and try to identify whether he/she might have been robbed by the three who are in police custody.

“I call upon residents to be wary when handling strangers in the town as fraudsters seem to have invaded Mwingi town as so far many similar cases have been reported,” added Mr Nyamu.
