A man was on Friday April 20, arraigned at Kithimani Law Courts in Machakos for stealing two chicken worth Sh1,200 from a trader.
As per the prosecution, Joseph Kimeu is accused to have stolen the chicken belonging to Ann Mutinda on Tuesday same week. He was however arrested at Kamunyani market in Machakos County before he could sell them.
The accused pleaded guilty of the charges leveled against him when he appeared before Resident Magistrate Gilbert Shikwe, saying that he had indeed stolen the chicken in order to raise some money.
“I was very pressed and I needed money,” he said.
Ms Mutinda, told the court that she woke up to feed the chicken when she learnt that the door to the chicken house had been broken and two of the chicken missing.
She then left for the nearby Kamunyani market with the hope of finding her thief and lucky enough, she saw the chicken tied with a rope on a fence post in the market when she arrived.
She informed the market supervisors about the incidence and Kimeu was arrested while haggling for the price of the two birds and handed over to the police.
The case will be heard and determined on April 24, 2018.
