Nguni Residents up in arms against Police Brutality

More than 20 people have recorded statements in Nguni police station for being beaten by policemen attached to the station that is in Mwingi east sub county of Kitui county.

This happened after one policeman was attacked (by a man said to be working in a garage )with a panga yesterday (Wednesday) at around 7:30 Pm when the officer was going to buy meat from a nearby butchery.
According to some residents the reason behind the attack was that the officer had taken this man’s  wife.
“I saw over 10 policemen  in my compound who started beating everyone in the house including my children” one lady,who had also come to record a statement  narrated .
Another hotel owner said that Nguni police officers stormed her hotel and started caning people which scared her customers away.
“I had just gotten in town from Mwingi and after alighting from the vehicle, I was whipped by some officers not knowing my offence” ,a driver said.
 “As at now,  we have not been accorded any help and some of us are badly injured. We are just being told to wait outside “, a resident told the press
Paul Munene,  the police boss confirmed reports of the policeman being attacked and that he was rushed to Mwingi level IV hospital for treatment as investigations are ongoing.
