Three vehicles, two probox and one Prado are currently held at Mwingi police station after the drivers were arrested transporting charcoal within Mwingi of Kitui county.
Charcoal transporters have invented new ways of ferrying the illegal substance where they have introduced personal cars such as Prado to transport the banned commodity.
One probox driver was arrested by County government officers at Nguutani police roadblock.Dr. Wathe who had been tipped about it transporting charcoal, informed officers at the roadblock where they arrested the driver and he is currently held at Mwingi police station awaiting to be arraigned to court tomorrow.
The other two vehicles were arrested by Mwingi central OCS within Mwingi town.
The number of sacks in the vehicles has not been identified yet as they will first put the charcoal in sacks to know how many sacks they are.
“The Toyota Prado might carry 25-30 while probox carries between 18-20 sacks though we are yet to confirm”, Deputy Governor Dr. Wathe who was in Mwingi police station said.
A stern warning has been issued to charcoal transporters using orthodox methods to transport charcoal that the county government is aware of them and every vehicle will be inspected in every roadblock.
