Kitui county Governor Charity Ngilu on Wednesday visited angry Kanyonyoo market traders of Kitui Rural sub-county along Mwingi – Garissa road whose kiosks and property were vandalized over the weekend by the Kenya National Highways Authority.
Governor Ngilu said cases of demolition of Musangi’s Kiosks was a characteristic of the former regime, which cared less for the welfare of the small scale traders, terming it barbaric and an insult to the people.A trait she will not allow.
“This is an outdated act that is unacceptable. KENHA should have given the traders a notice to vacate and clear their property rather than waking up to find their Kiosks demolished.” She said.
However, the governor urged those whose properties were destroyed to record their belongings to the chairman of Kanyonyoo market so that she can offer them a land do continue doing their businesses.
