A report by the Commission for University Education (CUE) has shown that most most Kenyan Universities’ hostels have been turned into prostitution dens as well as as well as criminal dens.
In the report that was presented to the Education Cabinet Secretary, Amina Mohamed on Wednesday May 2, it has been shown that the hostels have become hideouts for criminals and brothels to others.
“There are cases of active radicalization cells in universities. Students are colluding with each other in hiding crime” the report says.
The report which is currently being studied by the government in order to have appropriate actions taken also reveals that prostitution in university hostels has shot up together with increased cases of organised crimes.
“Ethnic and political alliances where national politicians engage university students during political campaigns; and laxity or little attention being given to security concerns in universities and constituent colleges are rife,” reads the report.
