The County Government of Kitui is conducting a water resource persons training on governance and sustainability of rural water supplies. The program will build capacities of local people to manage water scopes in their various localities.
At least 558 people will be trained county-wide. Having already finalized in Kitui South and Kitui East sub counties, the training is ongoing concurrently in Kitui Central and Kitui Rural before rolling out in Kitui West, Mwingi Central, Mwingi North and Mwingi West Sub counties next week. The trainees are expected to establish a reporting of water facilities status at any given time for quick remedial action.
“The county government is partnering with Kenya Water Institute (KEWI) and Sustainable Wash Systems (USAID program) in the implementation of the training program. KEWI will impart skills to access minor breakdowns and even replace or repair such malfunctions when they occur. These trainees will act as our ambassadors in the operation of these water schemes in facilitating optimal operation of the same” affirmed the Agriculture and Water CECM Emmanuel Kisangau.
