University student sentenced to 7 years in jail for robbery


A 27 year old man who doubles as a student at chuka university was today, Monday slapped with a 7-year jail term. by a kitui law court for stealing sh.1.4million on May 7,2018 from a civilian at the Kenya Commercial Bank(KCB) kitui branch,in kitui town

The accused, Mr Pius Mutua,however,pleaded guilty over the charge against him before the kitui principal magistrate Johnston Munguti.

According to prosecution led by Mr Abdalla, the complainant in this case Rebecca Muema had withdrawn ksh. 1.4 million from KCB bank in kitui town having been sent by her boss to pay his workers.

As she walked out of the bank,Pius came in,snatched her handbag,and ran a way.

Abdalla told the court that Rebecca raised an alarm to seek help from members of public who nabbed him and took him to kitui police station with the full amount which was later returned to the owner.

Pius however,told the court that he had come to visit his father who was very sick and had no money to take him to hospital lacking any other idea to obtain money.

The university student, pursuing a Bachelors degree in applied science and technology,had thus opted to robbery to raise money for his sick dad.
