Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on May,21 2018 held cabinet meetings in his home in Mua Hills, Machakos county for fear of his life after the government reduced his bodyguards.
Tuesday, 22 May another meeting is reported to have been held in the Governor’s home.
Nairobi County Committee Members were Sunday , 20 May summoned to Governor Mike Sonko’s Mua hills home in Machakos to discuss City matters.
Education and sports County Executive, Janet Ouko stated that the meeting went well refused to disclose more information.
“The meeting went well. I am however not the County spokesperson and the Governor is best placed to comment on that,” said Ouko
Interior CS Fred Matiangi had earlier said the government was withdrawing bodyguards of all VIPs, starting with the governors.
Sonko claimed he smells evil after withdrawal of some of his bodyguards.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has defended the move to reduce Governor Mike Sonko’s bodyguards saying; “no politician deserves to be protected by 26 policemen.
“Let us learn to use common sense as well. We can’t move a police station to your office,” Matiang’i said .
Matiang’i urged politicians to support the radical changes that are being made by the police service.
His remarks come just days after Sonko’s security detail was reduced .
Governors are supposed to have a maximum of four bodyguards but most of them have exceeded the limit.
Officers will be withdrawn from other county chiefs, senators, parastatals and others VIPs as well and assigned general duties.
Senators will be left with one bodyguard and an armed driver.
