Two Ugandan rugby teams steps in to Kitui 7s

Kitui Sevens has taken a new direction after the two rugby teams from Uganda confirmed to be participating in the function.Benjamin Ayimba,the Director of Kitui Rugby Sevens has confirmed that 32 men teams and 4 women teams shall be participating in the forthcoming Kitui 7s set to kick off on Friday 1st June,2018 at Ithookwe ASK Show Grounds in Kitui town.Two foreign teams have notified the event organising team that they shall be participating in the tournament.

Among the foreign rugby teams expected to take part in the event are Kampala Pirates for men and Kampala Select Women Team from the republic of Uganda.Kitui Rugby Football Club will host the tournament on Madaraka Day at Ithookwe Stadium,Kitui. Other rugby teams that take involvement at the Kenya’s Lower Tier League and at National League have been drawn from Makueni County, Meru and Kiambu County.

Local rugby teams are set to face off each other prior to the main event.Various local teams have been selected from St Charles Lwanga school,Nguutani Secondary, Yumbisye Secondary, Kathungi Mixed School,Kitui School,South Eastern Kenya University (SEKU) and KMTC will have their teams playing ahead of the big event.This was confirmed by the event organiser,Benjamin Ayimba.Ayimba added that the event is set to be successful due to the adequate preparations done.

All the rugby fanatics are expected to spent their Madaraka Weekend at Kitui town.The County CECM Sports and Culture Hon. Patrick Koki Musau urges all fans within and outside the County to come in large numbers and experience touristic attractions during the Madaraka Weekend for Rugby.Kitui Governor Hon. Charity Kaluki Ngilu is expected to attend the event accompanied by other senior officials from the County Administration.

Also, Daniel Ndambuki of the Churchill Show has been invited to the event among other popular Ukambani musicians including Ken Wa Maria of Yatta Band and Alex Kasau of Kisinga Sounds among other artists
