One nabbed in Kitui as fight against charcoal business intensifies

As the fight against Charcoal burning, transportation and all businesses related to charcoal in Kitui county hits top gear, one person was been arrested for transporting the banned consignments in the county.

One Micheal kariuki Karubu  was unfortunate and landed on the wrong side of law enforcement officers in Kitui county after being nabbed while transporting the black gold in a land cruiser pick-up.

The vehicle with plates KCB 444D was impounded on Monday June 4, at Syongila at 3pm carrying 23 sacks of charcoal that were allegedly headed to the neighboring Kiambu county.

Confirming the incidence, Kitui county’s new Police Commander Antony Kamitu said that law enforcement officers managed to nab the culprit at a road block towards Kabati after being tipped by the public.

” The ban on charcoal is not just a Kitui County affair but also effected by the central government as well. We want to notify anyone who still engages in this unlawful business to stop or face the full wrath of the law.” Kamitu said.

The Police boss further noted that the culprits have recently graduated from using big conspicuous vehicles to much smaller cars like pickup  land cruisers and Toyota probox.

The charcoal ban in Kitui county that was effected by governor Charity Ngilu has taken root and persons found indulging in the business not only risk law suit measures but also the loss of the vehicles.

The Judiciary,Kitui chapter alongside the police officers have incorporated the ban and have so far confiscated one Toyota probox and a van as a penalty for transporting charcoal.
