The Ministry of Interior security a d coordination through CS Fred Matiangi has declared Friday June 15, 2018 a public holiday to celebrate the end of the holy month of Ramadhan.
Through a memo in the official National gazette, the Cabinet Secretary noted that the act was to afford the Muslim faithfuls in the country time to make preparations to mark Idd-Ul-Fitr Day on Saturday, 16th June 2018.
“In exercise of powers conferred by Section 3 of Public Holidays Act, Friday, the 15th 2018 shall be a Public Holiday in order to accord all Kenyans and persons who profess the Islamic Faith the opportunity to make preparations to mark Idd-Ul-Fitr Day on Saturday, 16th June 2018,” read the memo.
Eid-Ul-Fitr is the first day of the Islamic month of Shawwal and marks the end of Ramadhan, that is a one-month period of prayer and fasting.

The day will be marked with attendance of a sermon at a mosque, some communal prayers and eventually give charity to the needy, mostly in the form of food.
