A dumping site in Muthaiga and Kyanika villages of Mwingi Central sub county is in bad shape as decomposing bodies of foetus are also dumped here.
The disturbed residents have called upon Kitui County government to ensure they do away with the dirt existing between the two villages.
Julius Muasya, a NEMA officer said the heap of garbage is a health hazard to people living near it and it’s environs, adding that the garbage is washed downstream and that water is used by the residents as well.
“Sometimes newborn’s decomposing bodies mauled by dogs are found there. This is very devastating and the police should investigate and arrest those women dumping the foetus here,” added Muasya.
Mwikali Mbila, a resident residing next to the bad smelling waste said many are the times they vacate their houses while the lorries are dumping the garbage there.
She said she has witnessed several newborns dumped here and sometimes they are carried to their doorsteps by the dogs which is insinuates a bad omen.
Mbila added that the area is highly infested by mosquito which have spread to the entire town after the area was made a dumping area as opposed to the time when it was not there.
Nzambi Mati from Kyanika area said she once found a body of a newborn at her compound something which negatively affected her thoughts.
Some County government officers have been promising them that they will erect a gate but the residents feel the gate will not help them at all.
“While burning the garbage, the smoke eminating from there  is unbearable. Sometimes we are forced to vacate our homes until the combustion is over, ” a Muthaiga resident lamented
