The Kitui County Assembly is set to get modern debating chambers which are being built at a cost of Sh247million.
The county assembly speaker George Ndotto and Mr Johnson Kanandu who is the MCA representing Muumoni and vice chairman of county assembly management board on Tuesday took members of the press and public around the facility.
Addressing members of the press, Mr. Kanandu noted that construction of the chambers commenced on May 2015 and was to set to be completed by December 2016 but it has taken a little longer due to court battles alongside other challenges.
Construction was halted for a duration of 1 year and 8 months as the disputes were being settled compared to initial planned period of 12months
For the last five years the County Assembly inherited debating chambers from the defunct kitui County Council, which he said was built in 1950
The new multimillion facility has a sitting capacity of 78 members and over 200 seats in the public gallery and will be launched on 7th September this year.
