Mwingi accident Killer lorry driver arrested as death toll rises to 11

Eleven pupils of st.Gabriel Academy in Mwingi have lost their lives after their school bus was involved in an accident a Kilometre away from Mwingi town.

The accident happened at Kanginga bridge along Thika-Garissa highway where the bus collided head on with a lorry at around 11pm on Saturday night.

The bus driver lost control after the crash where the lorry overturned and plunged in a ditch where several other pupils sustained injuries.

The pupils were heading home from a tour to Mombasa where they had hired a bus from Nguutani secondary school.

According to reports 44 pupils were on board at the time of the accident.

Six students had been dropped home just before the crash transpired.

Those injured were rushed to Mwingi level four hospital for treatment while the bodies of those who died are preserved in the same hospital mortuary.

The death toll rode to eleven after three others died while receiving treatment at Mwingi level four hospital.

Eight of them had perished on the spot at the time of the accident.

The driver of the lorry involved in the accident has been arrested and is under police custody.
