Kitui County political leaders have continued to pay tribute to condole families of the 10 pupils who perished in a road accident at Kanginga area near Mwingi town on Saturday night.
Some leaders are associating the cause of the grisly accident to the contractor who has been awarded a contract to renovate the Thika-Garissa Highway.
Mwingi West MP Charles Nguna today visited a Board member of his CDF who lost two children in the fatal accident at his residential home in Mwingi town.
The legislator called upon the National transport authority to consider erecting bumps near the area where the accident occurred and ensure that the heaps of soil which have been deposited along the road are cleared.
‘This accident could have been avoided if the contractor observed enough caution while doing his work,’ Mp Nguna added
Kitui Women representative Dr Irene Kasalu who had also accompanied the MP to console the family blamed both the driver of the Lorry which caused the accident and the one who was driving the school bus for not observing traffic rules and regulations.
Dr. Kasalu also emphasised on the need of having two bus drivers to assist each other because the distance from Mombasa to Mwingi is quite long.
Joseph Musyoka who is the father of the class eight pupils who are among the 10 pupils who lost their lives said that he was greatly saddened by the accident as his two children were among this year’s KCSE candidates and were among the best performers in their school.
The father of six said that nothing could be done to stand in place of his children and his family has experienced hard times owing to the accident.
