Kenya Film Classification Board CEO Dr Ezekiel Mutua on Wednesday announced the banning of James Muigai (DJ Afro) audio-visual content.
DJ Afro is popularly known for re-working on movie storylines and tailoring them for a Swahili audience.
And now KFCB boss Dr Mutua has cracked the whip against the entertainer due to his ‘gross’ choice of words when narrating the visual content.
On his facebook account Mutua went ahead to explain his reasons for banning DJ Afro’s content on Gikuyu Tv.
“Today [Wednesday, September 12] KFCB management met with the controversial James Muigai aka DJ Afro, his promoter and manager following our banning of his unpalatable content aired on Gikuyu TV and also distributed by unscrupulous business people and exhibited in public places without approval by the Board,”Dr.Mutua wrote on his facebook account.
DJ Afro admitted the illegality of his actions and took responsibility for the same, while pointing out that the content being distributed and exhibited across the country is illegal reproduction of his works done many years ago.
It was agreed that the Board will communicate its position to the Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government to have the culprits arrested and the illegal material destroyed, and that Gikuyu TV will suspend forthwith the airing of unrated material.
Mutua said that all the content generated by DJ Afro will be submitted for examination and classification for age suitability.
However Dr.Mutua’s decision didn’t go well with Kenyans on social media as a number of them roasted him for ‘touching’ their favorite entertainer.
