Makueni MP Daniel Maanzo has expressed his disapproval of the President Uhuru’s proposal to reduce tax by 50% from 16& to 8% on fuel products.
Speaking at a burial of former primary school teacher Kanthoni Village,in Makueni, Hon. Maanzo maintained that he wants the fuel VAT at zero adding that increment in fuel prices has led to inflation of prizes of almost all other goods and services in the country.
He said he will not support the president’s proposal when the parliament resumes on next week.
“We are going to parliament to oppose the proposal by President Kenyatta about the VAT since its making the lives of our people fellow Kenyans unbearable. We are telling him to withdraw everything, we do not want it, even if it’s one percent,” he said.
Maanzo however called on the government to find alternative methods of raising funds suggesting that money lost through corruption should be returned to the government to help in repaying our debts as a country.
The president Last week rejected the Finance Bill, 2018 which proposed that the 16 percent tax on petroleum products be postponed until 2020.
He instead proposed a decrease on the VAT by 50 percent, moving it from 16 – 8 percent which is giving most Kenyans a nightmare since it will lead to inflation in prices.
