Mwingi Woman narrowly escapes death from irate residents

A middle aged woman from Kiomo Location in Mwingi west sub county in Kitui county yesterday escaped death narrowly, after irate residents of the area invaded her shop and threatened kill her, over allegations that she was an accomplice in the killing of a 21 year old boy who was killed last year in the area and body dumped in a nearby rock water catchment.

 

The area residents are said to have taken the law into their hands, after police investigations proved futile as since December when the body of Mutuku was found, the police are said to have taken no action against the main suspects who are the father of the young man identified as Mutua Mbindyo and his sister Mwikali Kilonzi.

 

However, police arrived on time to safe Mwikali Kilonzi from the irate mob that had already given her thorough beating and were threatening to kill her. The two are currently being held at Mwingi police station awaiting further investigations over the matter.

 

According to the area residents, the father of the boy had threatened to kill him after the boy leaked information that his father had an affair with her daughter in-law, who is the wife to the elder brother to the deceased.

 

Daniel Muoti, a human rights activist at Mwingi has accused the police of laxity which has angered residents, forcing them to take the law in their hands.

 

Mr. Muoti said that in a public Baraza held on Monday, area residents had urged the police to immediately arrest the key suspect in December last year Murder case as residents there had clear evidence pointing to the two.

 

John Kilonzi, who is the husband to the woman who is the  key suspect rescued by police said that he was not aware all along that his wife would have been involved in the killing.

 

Kilonzi said that he was shocked to see people gathered around his shop at Kwa Munyanzu market after which they broke into his house, frog matched his wife and beat her up causing her severe injuries before she was rescued by police.
