The County Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Livestock Development yesterday received a total of 9000 -100ml bottles of cotton pesticides from the Agriculture and Food Authority.
The pesticide known as Thunder – broad spectrum will be benefit more than 4000 farmers who were issued with cotton seeds during the 2018/2019 financial year.
The distribution is an incentive to the farmers in line with the Big Four action plan by president Uhuru Kenyatta to revive the manufacturing sector.
“The farmers were given free cotton seeds and will also get free pesticides that will help them fight pests that attack the cotton plants” said James Barasa who is the Fibre Crop Directorate in Kitui County.
County Executive Committee Member for Agriculture Emmanuel Kisangau said the incentive was a great boost to farmers and called on farmers to invest in cotton farming that requires little rainfall.
Mwingi North Sub County has the largest number of cotton farmers in the county with a total coverage of 3000 acres followed by Kitui East with 1000 acres.
