Thaana MCA Mr. Alex Wambua has lauded the ongoing water seeking mission by the county in partnership with the local self-help groups estimated to quench thousands of locals especially those at water deprived points in Kitui county.
Wambua was speaking on his visit to Nziu Munyu Self Help Group (S.H.G) at rural Kyome village in Kyome/Thaana ward, Mwingi West constituency.Under the sponsorship of African Sand Dam Foundation (ASDF), the County Department of Water through the help of the locals is aiming at raising nine water tanks to tap more water.
The donor aid on water provision through intensified rock water catchment services to the areas hit by water scarcity is in alignment with Governor Charity Ngilu’s pillar number one in her five-pillared work schedule.
Mr. Kioko Kiilu, Kitui County Chief Officer in charge of Water and Irrigation Department, praised the fruitful efforts by the community under mobilisation of Madam Kavutha, Kyome Village Administrator, and the area based NGO for taking the lead in the outrageous water seeking journey in the area.The C.O promised an increased financial , technological and material support from the county to assist the S.H.Gs realize their pressing objectives.
Earlier on Friday, the MCA commissioned Kwa Mukusi borehole whose water is piped to Matisaa A.I.C and the entire Thitani Village.Mr. Wambua has also been in the front line to organize for the fundraisers to facilitate the completion of boreholes with the recent one being to fund piping water from AMREF sponsored community borehole at Kwa Mbuku to Kavaini area.
Luckily, on seeing the community and donor efforts, the county chipped in to assist conveyance of water pipes four kilometers long to the ward headquarters to serve community dispensary, nearby schools and churces.
MCA Wambua was accompanied by the County Water Director Mr. Kyuu kang’e, Sub County Water Eng. Philliph Mutaki, Ward Administrator Madam Ngeta and Village Adminstrator Madam David who all noted the devoted efforts by the county towards clean water provision.
