Kitui Rural MP David Mwalika will on Thursday issue bursaries to various students in four wards offices, including Kisasi assembly ward, Mbitini ward, Yatta kwa Vonza ward and Kanyangi wards. The bursary cheques will be distributed to needy students across the constituency in the bursary programmes. The beneficiaries will be primary, secondary, college and university students from poor families. Both the county and national governments are working hard to increase their bursary allocations to cater for needs of more deserving students.

Statistics shows that majority of students and especially the scores of girls drop out of school due to early marriages and pregnancies and others due to lack of school fees occasioned by high poverty levels. The girl child education is now under threat as more young girls are dropping out of school due to lack of school fees, poverty, early pregnancies and marriages, child prostitution and child labour. To curb this problem, the County Government of Kitui through the National Government Constituency Development Funds (NG-CDF) Board, has come out to support students so as to continue with their careers throughout colleges, universities, high schools and primary schools.
