Philanthropist restore smile in widows’ faces

Widows from Ngungani sub location in Mumoni Sub County in Mwingi North constituency were yesterday treated to a rare occasion of parting and merry by a local philanthropist who had organized for a party for them at his residence and donated food to them.

The More than 50 widows from the area were treated to a rare moment of partying and later given five kilograms of maize each to at least take home to their children who either partial or total orphans.

Due to massive crop failure which has been witnessed in Kitui county following poor rains in this season, hunger is looming and it could be seen on the faces of the poor mothers the gratitude they felt once they got their share of maize grains.

Speaking moments after the party, Agneta Mwasya who has been widowed for over ten years now urged the county government to intervene and supply widows and orphans with food as they are currently suffering as their Shambas yielded nothing this season.

She lauded Mr. Muthui who supplied them with foodstuffs and encouraged him to continue doing good.

Susan Nzomo, another widow from the area said the going hasn’t been so easy for women especially widows in the area as even educating their own children has been a nightmare due to poverty.

Peter Muthui who had organized the even for the needy women urged the county government of Kitui and the national government to address the plight of the poor in Kitui, especially the widows and orphans who have been going even for days without due to lack of food prompted to poor rains which have resulted into massive crop failure in most parts of the county.
