Kitui & Makueni County have negotiated for a better compensation package for the residents displaced by the Thwake Multipurpose dam.
“After our meeting with board Chairman Njeru Ndwiga, and the PAPs at the Site of the dam, a committee of all stake holders has been formed to review the package within two weeks to pave way for compensation and later Commissioning of the Dam” Kivutha Kibwana, Makueni Governor said
Much as the leaders support the project, they want the people to be ably compensated to start new lives elsewhere. It was agreed that a mobile Tanathi office be opened at Kalawa to address concerns of the affected persons while the other remains at Mavindini.
Designers of the dam have assured the leaders from the two counties that the project will see 58,627 ha of land put under irrigation, 17.6MW power generation among other benefits, all in Makueni.
