Man commits suicide after squandering son’s dowry in Kitui

The body of a 68 year old man was found on Wednesday 5th Aug evening in a maize plantation in what is thought to be a case of suicide.

James Kailu from Maluma village in Kitui County took poison to avoid questioning after he squandered Sh10,000 in merry making – cash his son was to take to his in-laws as dowry.

The money, which had been contributed by the deceased brothers, was supposed to be taken his son’s in-laws as dowry payment on August 8th to give them as appreciation.

Ikutha Sub County OCPD, Kingsford Nyanga, said that Kailu travelled to Nairobi with his youngest wife immediately he received the money only to come home yesterday evening with nothing.

That same evening, they found his body in the maize plantation.

His body was moved to the mortuary for a postmortem examination.
