Kitui residents laud Beyond Zero mobile clinic

Kitui residents have hailed First Lady Margaret Kenyatta’s Beyond Zero campaign for bringing child and maternal healthcare services closer to the people.

The residents said they used to walk for miles in search of health facilities but can now rest easy, thanks to a mobile clinic donated by the First Lady on November 2014.

“We can now access cancer screening, maternal health care and other services near our homes,” said Mutua Mutinda a resident of Ikutha sub-county, 150 kilometres from Kitui town.

He said before the clinic was donated, expectant women used to seek medical attention in Kibwezi and Kitui hospitals, adding that some could die on the way. A spot check by People Daily showed that more people are seeking health services at the mobile clinic.

Besides cancer screening, child and maternal health care, residents can also get tested for HIV/Aids at the clinic. Governor Julius Malombe’s wife Edith, said residents were sensitisised on the need to take advantage of the clinic and get screened for various ailments.

“We targeted Twaa Mbui, Ikutha, Kalalani, Kaningo and other remote areas where residents used to depend on unreliable clinics,” she said.
