“Take the sick to hospital or risk being arrested” Kitui Kavonokya members warned

Police in Kitui County are holding one woman for allegedly failing to take her ailing daughter to hospital on the grounds that it was against her church rules to seek conventional healing.

Mrs Maria Mwendwa, a primary school teacher, is said to have kept her sick daughter, a at Mbitini Girls Secondary School, at their home and away from school for over two months believing she would get better in the near future. How soon is only her God who knows.

Mrs Maria belongs to the controversial Kavonokya church whose members have over time showed firm determination to steer clear of contemporaneousness including contemporary medicine.

Wikililye Location Chief Madam Eunice Kiema, accompanied by Kitui police officers raided her home on Monday and rescued the girl from her home where the girl had been detained.
