Boy killed by stray elephant buried at their home Gai village, Mwingi North.


    A gloomy mood rent the air on Saturday 21st May, 2016 as mourners gathered to bid farewell a Class Eight pupil who was slayed by a stray elephant early this month.

    The young boy Collins Mary was from school when he and his friends encountered the elephant, his friends managed to escape but Collins was cornered by the wild animal and gored to death.

    It was a sorrowful moment for a young soul gone too soon in a circumstance that could have been prevented. Rampant cases of wild animals wandering around the sub-county have been reported.

    Speaking at the funeral, area MP Munuve Mati has called upon the Kenya Wildlife Service to reinforce the necessary measures to avoid human-wildlife conflict and occurrence of these brutal happenstance that could easily be prevented.

    Angry residents had earlier in the month found the stray elephant and killed it after Kenya Wildlife Service officers were unable to tame the animal.
