Governor Julius Malombe’s wife widens the rift between him and his deputy.

The Kitui electorate have accused Governor’s wife of assuming the duties of her husband’s deputy, the residents have taken to social media to vent out their disappointment. The first lady denied the accusation despite evidence of her enjoying privileges reserved for the county officials.

The first lady has access to county issued vehicle as well as police escort, chase cars, a red carpet and a mobile toilet according to the Daily Nation.

While defending herself at a function she donated shoes to school-going children, Edith said ‘The red carpet is used to make the residents of marginalized regions feel the presence of my husband.’

She defended herself saying ‘I have not taken anybody’s role and I don’t work in the county government, I am not a county government official.’ She said.

This comes at a time when the rift between the Governor and his Deputy Peninnah Malonza continues to widen. The deputy Governor only has an official county car as her privilege.

As reported by the Daily Nation locals have also accused her of using county resources to fund her projects such as donations to schools and women but she refuted the claims saying she gets money from her family’s Kyeni Foundation that has a partnership with the county.

According to the report Malonza is said to be warming up to a camp that is setting up to oppose Malombe in the 2017 general elections.

Rumor has it that the Kitui Senator David Musila who is planning to dethrone the Governor come 2017 is planning to have Peninnah as his running mate.
