Given a choice between Marende and Makau for the next Chief Justice, Marende is likely to beat Makau, political scientist Mutahi Ngunyi has alluded stating reasons why Mutua wa Makau cannot be the next Chief Justice.
Ngunyi in a series of tweets has cast doubts on Professor Makau Mutua professional values alleging he is an activist.
Chief Justice needs a non- partisan professional and Marende proved himself to be one when he was the speaker of National Assembly.
“Prof Makau is not neutral. We don’t need another activist for CJ,” read in part one of his tweets.
Many analysts have held that although Makau is over qualified for this job he’s likely to fail the test considering he has personal issues with the Jubilee government which would deter his service delivery if appointed as the next Chief Justice.
In fact Ngunyi said that he was not even sure if the lawyer was able to swear in President Uhuru Kenyatta in office if he is re-elected in 2017.
Prof. Makau’s long CV has also downplayed him with the analyst saying Makau’s level of education is in doubt despite the fact that the lawyer has an impressive resume.
“Does Makau have PhD or an EQUIVALENT earned in 2 years? A Toyota looking like a Merc?If a PhD hit him on the head, he would not RECOGNISE it, last time I checked (1994), Prof Ali Mazrui had a ONE PAGE CV.” read Ngunyi’s tweets.
Other applicants to the post include Supreme court Judge Smokin Wanjala, High court Judges Richard Mwango and Msaga Mbogholi, Court of appeal Judges David Maranga and Alnashir Vishram. The applications will be closed on Friday July 8.
