A shocker accident happened on Monday July 18 along Machakos- Kitui road, claiming two lives as the truck suddenly veered off of highway plunging into Thwake River and crashed, killing the driver and his conductor on the spot.

The lorry that was carrying construction material to Kitui is believed to have been moving at a high speed when the driver lost control, Mwala OCPD Henry Kimathi said.

The wreck occurred on Monday evening, bags of cement, metal bars and other items were scattered all over the scene as police and volunteers tried to retrieve the vehicle from the river.

Few other details were released about the crash and the police are looking into the wreck to determine what happened.
The lorry’s brakes might have failed leading to the crash, but the evening hours and the sudden loss of control of the vehicle certainly might have led to the crash.

Residents surround the wreckage at Thwake River.
