If a proposal by the Kitui County Ministry of Environment and Energy is approved by the county assembly then the frequent power outages that have become synonymous with Kitui Town could easily become a thing of the past.

The Ministry of Environment and Energy headed by Mr. Muusya Mwinzi is proposing construction of a 40-megawatts clean energy plant at Katoteni.

The project which is estimated to cost Kshs. 5.7 Billion and will be undertaken by a Japanese firm Loop Inc which has already struck a deal with the county.
