Teachers’ commission set to hire over 7000 teachers

The Teachers Service Commission has said it will enroll over seven thousand teachers this year to curb the shortage of teaching staff that has continued to frustrate public education system.

The commission has advertised 7,157 teachers teaching posts in public primary and post primary institutions.

Commission Chief Executive Officer, Nancy Njeri Macharia says that 5,000 teachers will be additional teachers while 2,157 teachers will be hired to replace those who have exited service through natural attrition.

Of the 5,000 new teachers, 3,775 posts will go to secondary schools and tertiary institutions while the balance of 1,225 will be employed in primary schools.

Applicants have up to Friday 26thAugust, 2016 to submit applications to the Secretary, Boards of Management in the case of post primary institutions. They should give a copy of the application to TSC County Director.

Applicants for vacancies in primary schools are required to apply to TSC County Directors.

The interview and selection process will be conducted between 29th August and 10th September, 2016.

TSC has sent a caution to applicants against fraudsters pretending to be in a position to influence the results of the recruitment exercise.
