Baba Kibaki critically ill, flown to South Africa.

Former President H.E Mwai Kibaki was flown to South Africa on Sunday evening for specialized treatment.

Earlier yesterday August 21, the family if His Excellency Mwai Kibaki the third President of the Republic of Kenya released a statement indicating that former baba wa taifa was critically unwell and had been flown to South Africa for specialized medical treatment, after being taken ill.

The family said H.E Kibaki was accompanied by his doctor and he is expected to return soon. The family called on Kenyans to remain calm and pray for Mzee Kibaki as he recuperates and they will be informed of his progress as appropriate.

“We ask Kenyans to pray for him, and to respect the privacy of the family at this difficult time.” The statement issued by the family of H.E Mwai Kibaki said.

The retired President Mwai Kibaki had been hospitalised at Karen Hospital after he fell ill at his Muthaiga home in Nairobi.

The 84-year-old lost his wife Lucy Kibaki in April this year while undergoing treatment at Bupa Cromwell Hospital in London.
